Qualifications and Training

January 1, 2009 redirects Comments Off

MCC is a provider of the Single Pitch Award, Climbing Wall Award, and Climbing Wall Leading Award. Run by our technical advisor, Ian Fenton, these are nationally accredited qualifications that allow you to instruct others climbing in a variety of settings.

The Single Pitch Award (SPA) is the course for you if you want to teach others to climb on outdoor, single pitch crags. The Climbing Wall Award (CWA) allows you to inctruct others on indoor and man-made structures, and is ideal for teachers and youth workers wanting to get thewir groups involved in climbing.

New for 2010, the Climbing Wall Leading Award is a bolt-on to either the SPA or CWA, and allows you to teach lead climbing indoors.

Ian also runs Rescue Emergency Care First Aid courses at MCC. These are a great compliment to a climbing qualification, and gives you the practical skills to deal with real life emergency situations.

Corporate Events

Climbing, whether indoor or outdoor, is a thrilling and stimulating activity that is both physically active and mentally challenging. By its very nature, climbing demands high levels of trust and co-operation from participants which builds a strong bond of confidence and team spirit. Strong communication skills are required from all involved in order to develop trust and reliance on team members, and to offer support and advice as their team mates climb. It is an opportunity to see others in a completely new situation, which requires mental concentration as well as physical action.

Climbing builds and develops trust and cooperation within the group, in a demanding but enjoyable environment. Skills developed during the session, such as teamwork and communication can be easily transferred into the workplace, improving productivity and the work environment for all. There are routes available for all levels of fitness and skill, from the total novice, to the experienced athlete. Climbing provides tangible goals and challenges for participants, regardless of their physical ability.

A climbing and/or teambuilding event can be arranged to fit your needs, for a range of group sizes. The session will be run by one of our experienced instructors, all of whom are keen climbers with a vast collective knowledge and understanding of technical skills.

At your initial inquiry we can discuss your specific requirements and establish how best to fit activities into this framework. If you choose a climbing-based activity, participants will be taught basic skills such as fitting a harness correctly, tying in to a climbing rope and belaying another climber. We aim to allow each member of the group to climb and belay as much as possible during the session.

Other teambuilding and initiative exercises may be arranged to make up part of the session, in order to complement the skills developed and widen the scope of the experience. Whatever the content of the session, everybody involved, we hope, will leave with sense of achievement both on an individual and team level, having learnt new skills and abilities. All equipment (climbing shoes, belay device, harness) will be provided for all participants for the duration of the session.

Your climbing session can be combined with a meeting or social event in our on-site conference room, and full catering can be provided if you wish.

Sessions are supervised on a maxium ratio of 1 to 9. Please give us a call on 0161 230 7006 to discuss your requirements.
